Dating to the Medieval Era, the term concierge evolved from the French "Comte des cierge,"  Keeper of the Candles, later becoming Keeper of the Keys.  Keepers were charged with the comfort and care of visiting nobles during their stay at the palaces of Europe.  These were the "go to" guys to get things done, the person "in the know" about the happenings, events, and goings-ons around the palace.      

The role of the modern day concierge remains much the same as centuries ago.  Today's concierge is a well-connected, trusted professional you can depend on to get results.
